Keeping your Information Security Promises

Many companies make promises to their employees and customers that they are going to keep their personal and sensitive information secure because they know that it is so important that this information is protected.  Yet we still hear stories of instances where there data breaches, stolen information and improper disposal.

In the news this week was the CEO of Employ Bridge in Atlanta.  He made information security his mantra and understood how important it is.  He had taken all of the measures he thought he needed,  he kept the files containing confidential information in a cabinet at their office.  What he didn’t expect was for the office to be broken into and the files to be distributed is recycling dumpsters.

This story teaches an important lesson about information security – storing these files in your office just isn’t enough anymore. The best option to prevent something like this from happening to you is to securely destroy the files by using a NAID AAA certified company.  If these files are not ready to be destroyed, use a secure document storage facility.  Protecting your customers and employees’ information is not only the right thing to do, it is that law.
